Early Life – Late 2005-Mid 2006
Eternal Bunny Love is a scanlation group that was formed in September 2005 by verdandi and Achrmaeiad, with lazydude being added shortly afterward and j3llo not long after him. None of us had any prior scanlation experience, but the premise behind the group was to treat scanlation as a hobby, doing projects that we wanted to do at whatever pace we felt like doing them. We started out with just one project, Para-Dice, but soon added Pani Poni (from which arose our first joint project). Sometime after the release of Para-Dice c2, verdandi vanished. We still don’t know what happened, but we wish her the best wherever she is and whatever she’s doing.
Growth and Decline, and the Downfall of Joints – Mid 2006-Early 2008
Between mid and late 2006 we had an explosion of projects and staff to go along with it. During that time we added seven new projects to our original two and with those came our second joint project, two new translators, and multiple new QCers.
Some of those projects never got off the ground (Komugi-chan), some took a very long time for the first release and then were scrapped (Lucky Star), some had a relatively quick first release and were scrapped (Haruhi), some got partway through before losing key staff to real life situations (Higurashi – Watanagashi), some were completed (Higurashi – Onikakushi), and some are still ongoing (Canvas 2, Animal Yokocho).
After this dramatic increase in projects and staff size, we started slowly bleeding staff members who could no longer work on the projects due to real life situations until, by early 2008, we were down to five staff members. This period also saw the disintegration of our joints on Animal Yokocho (SBM was providing the translator, which seemed to change nearly every chapter until they could no longer provide a translator who wanted to work on it), and Pani Poni (This was a decision on our end. While the editor from TWH was very good and we enjoyed working with him, real life situations had hit him pretty badly and didn’t seem to be letting up).
New and Old – Early 2008-Present
After the boom and burst experience, we decided not to add many new projects until we finished one we had already started and stopped actively recruiting new members, instead choosing to spread the jobs around to those we had immediate access to. We did do some active recruiting quite recently, as positions that were previously filled had to be re-filled or projects would have been stalled indefinitely. This period brought the rebirth of two old projects (Para-Dice and Animal Yokocho), and the birth of one new project (Roman). We look forward to continuing to bring you more reading material at our own special pace!
Questions
Q: Will you send me your scans?
A: No, our raw scans are to be used solely by EBL for the purpose of scanlation and are not to be redistributed to the general public.
Q: Whyyyyyyy?
A: We are not doing this to encroach on the consumer base of the Japanese companies. In fact, members of EBL own copies of every manga we are currently working on. Releasing untranslated scans publicly in any way, shape, or form will be contributing to just that issue.
Q: Why do you stop translating when the project gets licensed/any other licensing question?
A: We are not doing this to encroach on the consumer base of the companies that are licensing these projects in English. We are doing this to give people who can’t read Japanese a chance to enjoy the manga. Once it is licensed in English, our job is done. Continuing past that point would just be hurting the licensing company.
Q: Can I be part of the group?
A: I think the answer to that is you could try to apply, but chances are we won’t have much for you to do unless you’re a translator.
